A hundred years may pass until we have achieved our desired goal; or it may never happen at all. Nevertheless, sometimes we can also dream. Looking into the future, I see such a unity of forces which will bring peace and justice to the world, and I cannot but think that, even if nobody can openly stand for it as of yet, one day those who are yet to come will maybe live to see it . . .

UK Welcomes Igman Declaration

June 1, 2005 - UK Minister for Europe Douglas Alexander's statement

Following the adoption of a joint declaration by the Presidents of Croatia, Serbia & Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina in Belgrade, Minister for Europe Douglas Alexander said:

'The UK welcomes the joint statement by the Presidents of the Dayton signatories, issued following the recent meeting of the Mount Igman initiative (sic) in Belgrade.

'The UK has consistently encouraged the Dayton parties to continue the process of reconciliation and normalisation of relations between the three countries. The 10th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre highlights the importance of positive gestures towards good neighbourly relations.

'The Mount Igman statement (sic) is an important step in that process. It represents an excellent basis for further work, and we look forward to the implementation of the important commitments contained in it.'
