A hundred years may pass until we have achieved our desired goal; or it may never happen at all. Nevertheless, sometimes we can also dream. Looking into the future, I see such a unity of forces which will bring peace and justice to the world, and I cannot but think that, even if nobody can openly stand for it as of yet, one day those who are yet to come will maybe live to see it . . .

Antifascist picnic on Fruska Gora

Traditional gathering inspired by the celebration of victory over fascism on May 9th, which is also a day chosen by Center for Regionalism as its own celebration, took place in Aleksandar Popov’s summer house on Fruska Gora, on May 15th 2011. It was the seventh antifascist picnic which gathered around sixty antiwar activists, members and friends of Igman Initiative from around the region. This time, beside antifascists from Pula, Zagreb, Tuzla, Belgrade, Novi Sad and other regional centers, former President of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Mesic joined the gathering. During his presidential turn in September 2009, Stjepan Mesic received the Note of Honorary Membership in Igman Initiative. During this year’s traditional antifascist picnic on Fruska Gora, he became a fully fledged member of Igman Initiative.  This year’s meeting was also marked by feelings in loving memory of late ambassador Zivorad Kovacevic, one of the founders of Igman Initiative and a President of Igman Initiative Board.
